Dummy I Spat It, She Sucks It

What’s that sound?  What sound?  You’re right!  It’s silence.  Cayley is sleeping peacefully.  Not crying.  Sleeping.  I gave her a dummy and she’s fallen asleep.  Now we just have to see if that trick works more than once.

Neither Brett, nor myself are particularly keen on the idea, but I decided to give it a go.  Over the last few days Cayley has pretty much cried non-stop between feeds on several occasions.   It is heart-wrenching and ulcer inducing.  Not to mention the fact that I’ve been falling asleep on the couch with her in my arms.

I think we’ll trial this for a few days and if it is more successful than pacing up and down and around the house patting her on the bum, shhhhing in her ear, singing songs and generally feeling desperate I think we might stick with it.

You got any tips?

  1. we weren’t keen on a dummy for ashlinn either, but she liked it, and it helped – and it was down to a bedtime only thing by 6 months.

  2. I love love love the dummy/paci/soother. I really don’t know how people actually get children to sleep in their cribs without it (I assume there’s a way, but I don’t know what it is). A baby who takes a dummy/paci/soother is a good, good thing to have!
